Unlike Microsoft Outlook which stores the entire mailbox in the PST file, it creates separate DBX folders for storing email messages, i.e. Inbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, Drafts.dbx, and Deleted Items.dbx. There is also one more folder, i.e. Folders.dbx that stores the master index for all the mailboxes.

Windows Mail

After the launch of Windows Vista, the old email client, i.e. Outlook Express, was replaced by Windows Mail. It is an email and newsgroup client provided by Microsoft. Unlike Outlook Express which is available with various Internet Explorer versions, Windows Mail is only available for Windows Vista. In order to use this client software, an email account should be configured with it. It stores email messages in separate email files saved with.EML extension.

Windows Live Mail

The current freeware email client program for Windows users is Windows Live Mail which is available for Windows 7 or later versions. It is the successor to Windows Mail on Windows Vista. Windows Live Mail is the part of Windows Live Essential which is a freeware program. Unlike Windows Mail and Outlook Express, it doesn’t look like a desktop email client. Like other Microsoft Email clients, it also requires an email client by which it can send and receive email messages. Being a web-based application, all the email messages are stored on Microsoft Server instead of a local computer. Like Windows Mail, it also stores email messages in separate EML files. Here the need for email migration service arises.
